Our Monogram

Just wanted to share our official monogram.

Thanks to my brother who drew the cartoon-like figures in the middle and to my friend who did the layout using the starbucks logo as the inspiration. Thanks Kuya for the drawings kahit super kulit ko na. And to my creative friend thank you so much. If you're reading this, promise libre kita sa starbucks. =)

You might be wondering after seeing my gown and my chinese fan, why do I have this starbucks inspired monogram when I seem to be having an asian-inspired wedding theme? You'll know soon. =)

Chinese Wedding Fans Anyone?

You have seen the design of my gown. The Chinese collars made the design looked Asian-inspired. Would it be a perfect match if I have this kind of fan?

It's made of silk-like papers and the design, according to the Chinese-vendor, is handpainted. Well, I'm not really convinced on the handpainted thing but isn't it a perfect match for my gown? But how much do you think is it? Php 400? Php 300? Php 200?

Nope. This gorgeous Chinese fans only cost me 90 PESOS. Quite a steal right? Good thing I stumbled upon them when Ryan and I were at Sta. Lucia East Grandmall doing our usual "mall-date". I just absolutely liked the design that I also bought one for my mom and one for Ryan's mom so they too can use it on our wedding day.

Addicted to W@W II

(A series of meet-ups with my w@wie sisses)

March 18 – Met with Chel (DreChel) at Starbucks Valero.
Chel works in LKG while I work in PBCOM tower. Super lapit namen sa isa’t isa and we only learned about it when we exchanged emails on that same day. She gets off from work at 10 PM and I have a late night meeting until 10 PM, so we decided to meet up. Sa sobrang daldal namen ni Chel and sa dami ng pinag usapan namen, we didn’t realize that it was almost 3 o’clock in the morning. So we packed up and went home. But it was a fun coffee date kahit kameng dalawa lang. =)

March 19 – Met with Che (ni Dave) and Laine (& AJ) at Starbucks Insular Bldg
Che works in PLDT here in Makati while Laine works somewhere in Dela Rosa St. =) . Adik lang siguro talaga ako kaya I asked Che if she wanted to meet. She agreed. I also invited Laine and she agreed too. So there, we met in Starbucks and again talked about a lot of things. We are really laughing hard about some silly things. Laine left early and Dave ni Che arrived. A few more moments Ryan came. Che and I are talking a lot while Dave and Ryan are sitting quietly and toying with their phones. We took that as a hint to bid our goodbyes.

March 20 – Met with Janice (ni Jake) and Che (ni Dave) at Burger King, Glorietta
This is a meeting I didn’t plan. I knew Che and Janice met around lunch time but around 3 o’ clock in the afternoon, Janice sent me a YM message saying that she’s still in Makati and asked to meet. Since I don’t have much to do, I agreed to meet her. Che followed afterwards and as usual daldalan to the max na naman kame.

March 26 – Met with Josel at our OFFICE PANTRY
Yep. You read it right. I met up with Josel (& Cocoy) in our office pantry. Officemates pala kame pero I did not know until I read her post about the earthquake and that her office is also at the 42nd floor of their building. I got interested because ours is also at the 42nd floor so I sent her an email asking if she’s also in PBCOM and she answered yes. After learning that I actually have an officemate who’s also w@wie, we agreed to meet in the pantry of our office. As usual chikka-chikka ulit. Oh di ba pati sa office nakiki-pag EB ako =)

I really enjoy meeting up with my w@wie sisses as it is usually a fun experience.

The Gown...The Search...The Designer...

"It's every girl's dream to walk down the aisle wearing that perfect dress specially designed for her."

The Gown
I was sent by our company to Guangzhou, China last May 2009 for an onsite assignment. Going to our client's office, I had to travel by train and get off at the Shiergong station. Coming from the train station, one will pass by a series of bridal gown shops. Sometimes I go around these shops, fascinated with each wedding gown on display. It was during one of those times when I saw this Chinese-collared wedding dress. It has Chinese buttons in front and is closed up to the waist area. From the waist area, the fabric opens like a drape revealing a second layer of fabric. The designs and details on the gown were astounding. Instantly, I imagined myself walking down the aisle wearing that gown and it was then that I knew it was the gown for me. I left the store, with the picture of the gown already etched in my memory and telling myself that someday I will walk down the aisle wearing a gown similar to that. Little did I know that that "someday" will already be "soon". (If I had known then that Ryan would propose in October of 2009 and we will be getting married in December of this year, I would have taken a few shots of that gown.)

The Search
Here's the deal. Ryan proposed in October 2009. I thought we will start planning the wedding not until the second quarter of 2010. But no, late November of last year we started booking our suppliers one by one. Knowing that December is a hot month for weddings, I looked and researched for a number of designers after we have booked the major suppliers. So my hunt for my designer is now on. 6 designers, 6 different stories

Designer 1 - We had a pleasant meeting with her. She's a nice and warm person. She gave us a really affordable package. But there's no spark. There's no "this is it feeling" as others would say it.

Designer 2 - My mother personally knows designer 2 and his family. He is sort of a family friend and is like the personal designer of the Sanvictores clan. He made the wedding gowns for almost all of my cousins in my mother's side. He even did my sister-in-law's wedding gown. My mom is so confident that he will make me a beautiful dress. I wanted him at first because he knows his craft and is very good at it. But what irked me was that he sort of broadcasted to my aunts how I wanted my wedding gown to be. My aunts got the impression that I was just showing off and just trying to be extravagant about everything which, of course, was not true. So goodbye to Designer #2.

Designer 3 - They say he's good and he's quite popular too but I had the most unpleasant experience with him. Simply because he ignored me when I visited his shop. He did not even bother to get to know me nor discuss thoroughly how I wanted my gown to be. He seems to be on a time-constricted conversation with me and seems to be not interested with me at all. With that I crossed him out of my list.

Designer 4 - After such an unpleasant experience with Designer # 3, I wanted to stop searching for my designer for a while. However, a fellow w@w bride-to-be posted a name of this young designer whom I got interested with. I searched for her site, got her contact details and sent her an email. After an hour, she replied. We exchanged a few more emails before I set an appointment with her.  The day of our meeting, the cab took the wrong turn and left me with no choice but to walk all the way back to her building. I was thinking and wishing na "Sana mabait sya...and sana sya na ung "the one for me" para sulit tong paglalakad na 'to." With that thought still in my mind, I rung the doorbell of her shop unit. A young and cute girl opened the door and greeted with me a smile. I said to myself "Hmmm....mukhang okay to ah...mabait...sana okay din ang work nya."  And so we talked about me first, my work, and our love story, then she talked a little about herself. She was really establishing rapport with me. And then on with my gown. Since I did not have any picture of the exact gown I saw in China, I just searched for pictures of gowns that were close to what I saw and showed it to her. And then she drew a sketch of how she envisions the gown that I like. After finishing the rough sketch, my heart raced and my palms became all sweaty (as in kabog talaga ung dibdib ko).  I knew it is what they called "this is it feeling". After chatting a few more moments, I bid goodbye for now because I still want to check out others just to be sure I checked all my options.

Designer 5 - Young, talented, creative and also popular. She seems nice when I was talking to her through text messages. Then came the day when I met with her. She's nice and knows her craft well. She drew a sketch of my gown for me, but the feeling is not right. It was not the gown that I wanted. It seemed to be the same but it really was not. I also can't keep up with her and all of the fashion jargons. I was absolutely clueless when she was trying to explain the design to me using those jargons.

Designer 6 - Another designer my mother personally knew. I met with him to give way to my mother's request. But to make my story short, met with him, talked to him, but he's just not the one.

The Designer
Who did I choose? The answer is obvious. Designer # 4. And who would that designer be? Its JOE SANANTONIO. A young and talented designer. She's quite new in the wedding industry but she's slowly making her mark in the industry. Why did I choose her?

She's cool-natured, talented, accommodating, pleasant and really friendly. I don't feel uncomfortable with her eventhough I knew she was conio. She tries to go down to her client's level. Kaya for me she's a "conio na nagpapaka-jologs". She explains the design in words that I would understand. She knows her craft and is really good at it. I checked and loved her designs and its quality. Ryan found her pleasant and she gave us a reasonable price. And I ABSOLUTELY LOVE what she had designed for me. It is what I want and how I wanted it to be.

Inspired by the wedding gown I saw in China, Joe designed a two-layered dress. The outer layer will be a  haltered-cut, Chinese-collared with a see-through lace accent at the back; closed up to the waist area and opens from the waist down revealing the skirt of the inner gown. It will also be my train which I will remove during the reception. As for the inner gown, I wanted the skirt to be plain with only the details and embelishments as the design at first. But with all the "frou-frou" craze going on, I wondered if it will fit my design. I asked Joe and her opinion was that since I have an outer layer, the mass of fabric underneath the outer layer will not look good on the outside. It will make the gown bulky and all-swelled up. So she suggested layered fabrics or rosettes instead. A "semi-frou-frou". She drew a sketch of the inner gown with rosettes and layered fabrics. I loved the layered and settled with it.

Want to see how my gown would look like? See the sketches below.

Bridal Fair Marathon

3 Months. 4 Bridal Fairs.

Actually, there have been 5 bridal fairs already but we’ve only been to 4. And each bridal fair has a different story.

Jan 23 – 24, 2010

NBC Tent – Weddings & beyond: A Walk to Remember
SM Megatrade Hall 3– The 10th Ultimate Wedding & Debut Fair

Left home and met with Ryan at around 9 in the morning and went straight to NBC Tent, Fort Bonifacio. This was our first time to attend a bridal fair and I was really excited about it. We arrived at the NBC tent a few minutes past ten. The fair has just started and ang dami ng couples inside. My plan is to scout for a florist and check out the photobooths. I’ve talked to about 4-5 florists pero either masyado silang pricey, hindi ko trip yung arrangements nila (well POV ko lang naman to) or hindi sila okay kausap. I met one na okay sana pero may catch. He said that he could drew a bouquet design for us, to see if we would like it or not. If we book them, the sketch would be free; if not we have to pay for it. I was like “Ah Ok..Sige I’ll look around muna”. In the end, we got tired of going around but we still have no florist. But our first bridal fair at the NBC tent was not a complete failure kasi we were able to book our photobooth. After much discussion who to get among the number of photobooths present, we cut our choices to either Shutterbox or Studio-on-Wheels. Ryan no longer wanted the hassles of talking to different suppliers kaya he insisted on booking Studio-on-wheels since we booked Niceprint na naman as our P/V. We also checked out some rings but Ryan can’t seem to find a ring that he truly wants. Whatever the style of that ring that he wants I’m really not sure. And oh, he kept on checking out mobile bars. Siguro he really liked the idea of having a mobile bar. Hmmmm…. If our budget permits, why not?!

....first name tag namen in a bridal fair...

...Ryan's not fond of picture taking kaya isang photobooth lang ni-try namen..

Done with NBC tent and off we go to Megamall for another Bridal fair. We actually got nothing out this bridal fair because there are only a handful of suppliers. Nothing much to see. And so we just met his family and had dinner at HK Choi’s Restaurant at the Atrium. It’s their favorite Chinese restaurant. I love their Hot Prawn Salad. So yummy! Afterwards we left for Pateros naman where Ryan met with his teammates for a team GA. Inuman eto. Pati ako naki-inum na din. =)

While in a cab going home from their team GA, since medyo naka-inom ako, medyo nagdrama ako kay Ryan saying that I feel that it’s only me who’s excited about the wedding and I don’t feel that he’s helping me out with the preparations and more ka-dramahans pa. He said sorry and said na wala naman daw kasi syang alam sa mga details masyado. He just needed to know the budget lang daw para maprepare nya kasi alam nya yung ang job ng lalaki. Pero he’d try daw. Though, I understand that he’s the typical groom-to-be pero I still wish that he could be a bit more hands on. Pero we’ll see.

Feb 12 – 14, 2010

SM Megatrade Hall 1, 2, & 3 – Weddings & Debut 2010
SMX convention center – Bridal fair

We didn’t have any chance of visiting the bridal fair at SMX but I had fun in this bridal fair mainly because of my w@wie friends.

Feb 12. I left early sa office and went to Megamall to meet Ryan. Marley, my officemate, went with me as she wanted to experience a bridal fair too and get some video samplers from participating videographers. We went to the booth of our OTD coordinators and went on scouting for some hair & make up artist. Sis Ellen Grace (w@wie) asked me to booked Val Villarin in her behalf since she’s in Hong Kong. It was only then when I found that Val’s package during the fair for w@wies like me was Php 12,500. This includes the hair and make up for the Bride and Groom plus 6 heads and free make up for the flower girls. Plus additional free trial make up during the pre nup. WOW! Super good deal yun and it would take care of all my hair & make-up needs. But, as in a big BUT, he already has a pencil booking for my wedding date. And he’ll do a trial make up with the bride-to-be on that same day and he’ll know if he’ll be booked or not by the other bride. He will let me know daw the next day. I still went to check out a number of hair & make up artists (Irene Manigo, EJ Litiatco, Princess Misa and Eddie Bruan) but most were already booked on my date. Akala ko pa naman unpopular date yung wedding date namen but I was wrong.

And so the next day, Feb 13, I went back to the bridal fair and back to Val Villarin. Although I managed to ask him to give me the trial make up, in the end it’s a bad news. The other bride-to-be booked him, which means I have no chance na. Sadnesss. I was able to book him for Ellen Grace and but not for me. Janice, Che and Libz were among others who were able to book him. Oh well, so much for my luck. Nag-photobooth galore and chikahan session na lang kame. Janice, ChaCha and I went to different photobooths and had our photos taken. It was so fun. And when we got tired tambay lang sa W@W booth. It was there where I met Ms Benz and a number of w@wies din like sis Haze (ni pitoy), Precious, Laine, Krystell and Honey, to name a few. Sa sobrang dami hindi ko na ma-remember lahat. Sorry sisses if I can’t remember you all. I had so much fun in the last few hours kahit nakatambay lang kame sa w@w booth. We were all just laughing out loud sharing all our experiences and anything we could joke about. One which is about Ryan asking what and where is CTK? (CTK- short for Christ the King; this is where we will say our I do’s) Awwwww…Wawa naman baby ko. He’s not familiar kasi with the acronyms that w@wies use for the church. =)

...photobooth hopping pics...

I also got to meet some of my dream suppliers and I must admit I was star stricken with them kasi they are so good with their crafts and I just love their outputs. I saw the talented Pheoben Teocson (videographer) together with his lovely wife & the creative Paul Vincent (photographer). Sana si Veluz and Oly Ruiz makilala ko din. =)

Feb 14. Valentine’s day. And yes bumalik ulit ako sa bridal fair. Pero this time it’s not about the wedding anymore. I tagged along with my brother and my sister-in-law to check out the kids section since they also have suppliers for baptismal and children’s party too. They’re checking out suppliers for the baptism of my soon-to-be-born niece. Finally a baby girl in the family!

I had dinner with Ryan and his family at Heavens and Eggs in Eastwood City afterwards then uwi na. Grabe ang boring ng Valentines day ko.

(On the side note: Ryan checked out mobile bars again while in the fair. Gusto nya siguro talaga yun. Sana may budget pa kame for it…Hayyy)

Mar 13 -14, 2010

PICC Forum – Wedding Expo Philippines 16th Edition

Just last Saturday, March 13, I experienced another fun bridal fair. Ryan was not able to come since he have work and can’t make it. I was with Marley (na-a-addict na din sa bridal fairs) and sis Laine. Funny kasi Laine had a dream a few days before that she woke up late and I left her and went to the bridal fair without her. Yung pala ako ung late on the day itself buti na lang hindi nya ako iniwan. =)

Our first stop…cakes. We first checked out Cakeline, one of the accredited cake suppliers of our caterer, which happens to be a sister company of the cake artist . We got to taste a few of their samplers and it tasted pretty good. It’s moist and really tasty. Now on to the design of our cake… I asked how much we need to add for the bonggacious cake I had in mind. Batch Uson, Judy Uson’s (the cake artist) brother, gave me a quote of 19k additional for the cake I wanted. WOW! Parang gusto kong mag-tumbling. Hahahaha. I have to let go of my bonggacious cake and settle for a simpler one that is included in the package we have with Hizon’s since we don’t want to spend much on the cake. The cake design I chose still fits in to our theme so okay na din. And when I asked Laine’s and Marley’s opinions, they find the design cute kaya keribels na. I just upgraded it to an all-edible 3-layered fondant cake with the dimensions of 14 x 9 x 6. And added a gum paste cake topper para naman at least yung cake topper masunod. So there, I am settled na with our cake. But we still tried 5-6 more cake suppliers and one of them is the infamous Joy San Gabriel. And I must say her cakes are simply delicious! Too bad, can’t afford her for our wedding. We also had a chance to taste Pauline’s desserts and tried a couple of mobile bars. It’s when we are trying out Soberclub that we met Ryan, owner of Soberclub and Flower Power. Since Laine was also looking for a florist, she inquired with him na. He’s OC and very detail-oriented and left a good impression on us. It was fun talking to him even though it’s a bit hot inside the venue because of the power failure. Not sure though if Laine would book him.

...marley, me and laine...

We also met a number of suppliers. Jesy Alto (make-up artist) – cute, accommodating, ma-chika, and makulit; Erron Ocampo (photographer and fiancĂ© ni Jesy) – cool, down to earth, and finds me amusing because I can identify the Veluz Brides from CA brides (Hahahaha…adik na talaga ako…); Joey Boquiren (photographer) – mabait, humble and star struck ako sa kanya kasi I love his photos; I loved the booth of Jason Magbanua, it’s a sari-sari store complete with a pack of boy bawang in display. =) Too bad that Jason M. was not there at the time.

It was already 5 PM and Laine has to leave for home na. It was only then that we realized we haven’t eaten lunch yet. There was no available booth where we could buy some food in the fair, the only solution we thought is to join the food tasting of Juan Carlo. And so we did. Marley and I joined the food tasting for some free food. Hahahaha. But to be honest I was contemplating naman talaga on changing our caterer pero Juan Carlo is not for us. Although the food are tasty but it's flavors are just too strong and are not that enticing to my palate.

Marley and I ended the day relaxing at Starbucks in Harbor Square. It was a fun day. Errmmmm….just realized that it’s actually fun to go to bridal fairs with girls lang. Don’t get me wrong, I love to go to bridal fairs with my fiancĂ©. It is a nice feeling. But when you’re accompanied by girls kasi, you get to try and check out everything. Not much restriction. Unlike if we are with our h2b's, going around in circles in a fair tends to bore and irritates them.

Addicted to W@W

When I started preparing for our wedding, I initially joined to GT forum to research on my wedding suppliers then I stumbled on w@w. W@W or WeddingsAtWork is an online community for soon-to-be brides and grooms. It is where brides-to-be (and a few grooms-to-be) share their wedding preps experiences, happiness, sadness and even personal issues or ask questions and feedbacks. It is also here where I find nice ideas, and useful tips that I can use for my wedding. I can also speak my heart out and share my thoughts with the group.

But the thing that I really liked about this group is that I’ve earned new friends.

Friends who understands the pressures and hassles of wedding preparation because they too are going through the exact same thing. Friends who are willing to help you out with all of your wedding-related issues. Friends who will laugh and joke with you during bridal fairs. Friends who will give you a feeling of belongingness and acceptance.
And in my desire in meeting my fellow w@wies in person I actually set an EB date with my fellow w@wie sisters. It was last Junuary 30, 2010 at Gloriajeans Robinsons Galeria (too bad walang pictures..nakalimutan namen magpicture picture). It is where I met a number of beautiful and cool brides (ellen, tin, chel, aby, joana, len). Super chikahan lang ang ngyari during the EB that we forgot to take pictures. Ellen (& chris) was super excited with the veil that Len (& Orj), the DIY queen, gave her. Kung gano ka-chika ni tin (& marvin) ganon katahimik naman si Chel (DreChel). Aby (& Ryan) was super poised and Joana (& Dan) kelangan lang i-warm up tapos dadaldal din. =)

The bridal fair last Feb 12-14 proved to be another w@w event for me. It was there that I finally met Ms Benz in person and met a couple of w@wies din na super kalog and super ang kukulit din. Janice (ni Jake), Che (ni Dave), Liberty (& Christian) and Chacha (ni Edgee). I had so much fun and laughter nung kasama ko sila. I had a glimpse of Fei (ni Stan), na madalas kong nakaka-chat, and a few other sisses. It was also through w@w that I met my usual chat buddies Cha (& Paul), Ellen (& Jason), Laine (& AJ) and Elaine (& Ken).

...Ms Benz and I...
..(from left to right) Chacha, Me, Libz, Honey, Janice & MIL ni Honey..

I’m just addicted to this group that it’s the first site I check upon opening my workstation at the office and the last site I check before turning off my home computer. Being a w@wie you must learn a few terms to get by. See the list below:

h2b – husband-to-be                    FFIL – Future Father-In-Law

A very tiring weekend

February 27 and 28 – Measurement-taking of my entourage with Tita Vky. Yes, you read it right. As early as now my entourage had their measurement taken mainly because Tita Vky requested to have it done earlier so that she could purchase the fabrics already while the price has not yet increased. Feb. 27, my bridesmaid Aurora, Mercy, Arlene, Julie, Ces, Macquis, one of my secondary sponsors, and AJ, my cute inaanak and flower girl came to our house to meet with Tita Vky to have their measurements taken. (Actually, a week earlier, Feb 21, my maid of honor, koks and my two other bridesmaid, Es and Carol had their measurements already taken). Being the host, my mom and I woke up early for our guest arriving in the afternoon. We have prepared spaghetti and our specialty, mini-puto, which every one enjoyed especially Tita Vky whom I promised that I’ll give her some to take home if she gives in to my “tawad” (hahahaha…gamitin ko daw ba yung puto na pang-tawad). I know she loved it kasi she already tasted it before kasi she also did our gowns for my Kuya’s wedding.

Feb 28, it was Ryan’s family turn to have their measurements taken. Since they have other business and places to be, we left for Divisoria at 8:30 AM. Arrived at his Aunt’s house in Dagupan St. (the street located at the back of Tutuban Mall) at 10AM. Met with Tita Vky at Tutuban and brought her to his Aunt’s house where she’ll take the measurements of my other entourage. Another bridesmaid of mine, Michelle (Ryan’s sister), my Jr. Bridesmaid, Tara and Lia and his mom had their measurements taken. And finally Ryan’s mom chose a design she liked. The design of his mom’s gown has been bugging me na din for a number of weeks. At least this issue is now resolved. After they had their measurements taken and we have already eaten lunch, we left for Pagrai, Antipolo where I met another Uncle of Ryan.

I was dead beat when I got home Sunday night, and it was only then that I remembered, I have forgotten to take pictures! Arrrrgg..oh well so much for the girl scout in me. =) But below are the inspiration for entourage's gown. I want it simple, no beadworks, but simply elegant.
